iXmatch Scientists Organize Workshop at Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining Conference
Dr. George Karypis and Dr. Eui-Hong (Sam) Han plan discussion on current works and results in text mining
Bloomington, Minn. - Tuesday, April 30, 2002 - iXmatch Inc., the leading provider of matching software, today announced its Chief Scientist, Dr. George Karypis, and Scientist, Dr. Eui-Hong (Sam) Han, have organized a workshop on text mining at The 6th Pacific-Asia Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining in Taipei, Taiwan May 6th, 2002. The workshop will bring together researchers from many disciplines and practices to present their current works and results in text mining.
The tremendous growth in the volume of online text documents has created interest in tools and approaches for dealing with unstructured or semi-structured information. “George and Sam are two of the foremost experts in knowledge discovery and text mining,” stated Gopal Sadagopal, iXmatch cofounder and vice president of product development. “Their work has helped propel iXmatch into its leadership position in search and matching software.”
The Sixth Pacific-Asia Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (PAKDD-02) will provide an international forum for the sharing of original research results and practical development experiences among researchers and application developers from around the world. “The PAKDD conference brings together the brightest minds from universities, industry and government agencies all over the world,” stated Dr. Sam Han, iXmatch Scientist. “George and I appreciate the opportunity to share the results of our ground-breaking research and development.”
In the workshop, Dr. Han will lead a discussion on how text mining provides knowledge discovery tools and approaches utilizing techniques from data mining, machine learning, information retrieval, natural-language understanding, statistics, database, and visualization. “Text mining serves as an enabling technology to the recent developments in Web intelligence and as a complementary technology for the Semantic Web and OntoWeb initiatives championed by the W3C consortium,” said Dr. George Karypis, iXmatch Chief Scientist.
Dr. Han received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Minnesota. His research covers Data Mining, Information Retrieval, Parallel Algorithms, and Artificial Intelligence. He has published numerous research papers and received several awards and honors for his work.
In addition to his role at iXmatch, Dr. Karypis is an assistant professor of computer science at the University of Minnesota. His research covers graph partitioning, algorithms for multilevel clustering, multi-constraint partitioning, parallel repartitioning, circuit partitioning, data mining algorithms for classification of high-dimensional data, deviation detection, Web document classification, parallel processing algorithms and latency tolerant algorithms. Dr. Karypis has written books, published journal and conference papers and delivered speeches at several prestigious forums.
